Relationship between adolescent’s life satisfaction and community awareness: using data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey

Abstract

|
Purpose: It is important to consider community awareness not only because of individual satisfaction as a community member but also because of the quality of life. It is needed to study considering adolescents’ behavior patterns from a broader perspective, such as community awareness, not limited to family and school environments. This study aims to find the relationship between life satisfaction and community awareness among adolescents in Korea, using data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey.
Method: This study used the fourth grade of the seventh year (2016) Korean Children Youth Panel Survey by the National Youth Policy Institute, which included 1,643 subjects. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify life satisfaction related to community awareness.
Results: As a result, the variables that affect adolescents′ community awareness are gender, residence, economic level assessment of household, housing type, life satisfaction, cyber delinquency, peer attachment, and positive parenting attitude.
Conclusion: These results indicate that awareness of positive communities is important for adolescents preparing to establish themselves as healthy members of society. Various efforts are required not only in the family and school but also in the community itself so that adolescents can have a positive awareness of the community. And these results suggest various programs that related to adolescent′s community awareness.
